Quantum dihydrogen tunneling in the first nonclassical dihydrogen complex of Co: An INS study.

Non classical metal-dihydrogen complexes play a very important role as key intermeiates in catalysis,and recently haven also been proposed as possible hydrogen storage materials. It has already been demonstrated the Ir/Ru-dihydrogen complexes may be very successful, though impractical due to the very high cost of the metals. Here we propose to measure the dynamics of a model dihydrogen complex of Co[1]. In fact this is the first known nonclassical dihydride of Co, eventhough it's nature has been recently disputed [2,3]. We propose therefore to use INS in order to observe the dihydrogen quantum tunneling whose presence, we have shown, is the fingerprint of nonclassical dihydrogen complexes.
