We propose to carry out a muSR study of the spin dynamics in two single crystal samples of Yb2Ti2O7. Both samples are notionally stoichiometric but they have been prepared using different protocols. One sample exhibits a clear anomaly in heat capacity at 0.24 K. This appears to be a transition to a state with long-range ferromagnetic order. In the second sample, the peak in the heat capacity is absent. We plan to investigate the moment fluctuation rates above and below Tc in these two samples. This data will be used to rationalise the conflicting data sets that currently exist for this material in order to reveal the true ground state of Yb2Ti2O7.
