Ice thickness from the coast of Dronning Maud Land (Antarctica), recorded 2018/19 with the AWI UWB radar systemThis project aims to acquire airborne data with AWI's UWB (ultrawideband) radar to investigate important aspects which define the dynamics of the sheet-shelf system in DML, Antarctica. This includes several ice rises, which serve as breaks for unhindered ice-shelf flow as well as a particular site just upstream of the grounding line, where strong interaction between a sediment-carrying, subglacial hydrological network, the ocean and the ice sheet are suspected. The data will lay the ground to constrain estimates of past ice flow and to understand stabilizing/destabilizing mechanisms in the most critical zone around Antarctica. The radar lines collected for this survey were mainly flown over ice shelves and ice rises, covering areas with an ice thickness ranging from several hundreds to about 1000 m.AWI Flight Campaign: P6-215_UWB_2018Region: Coastal Dronning Maud LandOwner/PI: Reinhard Drews (University of Tübingen, GER)Contact of the data provider: daniela.jansen@awi.deInstrument used: AWI UWB (MCoRDS 5)Firn correction: none appliedVelocity profile: dielectric constant of 3.15 ( c = 1.68914e8 m/s )Method of navigation : GPS data was acquired by four NovAtel DL-V3 GPS receivers operating at 20HzIce Thickness uncertainty is the RMS of the the sum of the crossover mean of 29intersections (= 11.2 m) and the error of the dielectric (1%). sqrt( (crossover_mean)^2 + ( (-ice_thickness/2) * 0.01 )^2 )
