The research focuses on the role of digital technologies in newswork. The authors are interested in the impact of internetization, digital platforms, audience metrics and possibilities of automatization on the labor process, division of labor, interactions with the audience and on business models of news media. Five Slovene newsrooms that produce digital content were included: Siol.net, 24ur.com, MMC RTV SLO, VAL 202 and Večer. We selected the newsrooms to maximise variability on two dimensions: the first was by including the public broadcaster as well as private media with different ownership structures (foreign, domestic private, state); the second by including different types of media (press, radio, television, news portal of the public broadcaster and digital native). For a comprehensive understanding of the studied problems we included journalists, editors as well as representatives of marketing and IT, analytics and social media specialists from each organisation. We have also included representatives of the Slovenian Union of Journalists and the Slovene Association of Journalists. The research was conducted within the scope of the project New Modes and Global Patterns of Online News (Re)production.
