Magnetic Roughness controlled by anisotropy

DOI

This is a continuation for proposal number 520445, where we looked at the magnetic roughness in the superlattice system Pd/Fe/Pd/Au. The analysis of the previous results is promising as it shows differences in neutron reflectivity at the 3rd Bragg peak when field is applied to the sample only in the case of Pd present between Fe and Au. We would still need to measure other samples of the series with partial coverage of Pd at the interface between Fe and Au. We now know the NonPA data could be enough to characterize the system, particularly at the third Bragg peak. We would try to measure also a 4th Bragg with and without a magnetic field applied to the plane of the sample. As chemical profiles have been already fitted through x-ray reflectivity, this experiment will allow to determine the magnetic configuration of the samples as a function of the amount of Pd at the interface.
