X-ray fluorescence (XRF) measurements of ODP Hole 198-1210B from Shatsky Rise during the Late Cretaceous

DOI

X-ray fluorescence (XRF) core scanning data from ocean sediment cores drilled on Shatsky Rise that span the Late Cretaceous (DSDP Site 305; ODP Sites 1207, 1208, 1210, 1212). XRF scanning was performed on the archive section halves of sediment cores and measured at the 50 kV excitation leve using the 3rd generation (DSDP Site 305) and 4th generation Avaatech core scanner (all other sites). Elements measured include Ca, Fe, Ni, As, Br, Rb, Sr, Y, Zr, Nb, Mo, Ag, Ba. Core scanning was performed at the IODP Gulf Coast Repository in College Station, Texas (USA) from March 3-21, 2025. The XRF data was integrated with bulk sediment stable isotope data at the same sites to build a Shatsky Rise composite astronomically-tuned reference. Therefore, the composite depths and time are a reflection of high-resolution correlation and astronomical age model development.

Model settings: Model 50 kV: Ca-Kalpha, Fe-Kalpha, Br-Kalpha, Rb-Kalpha, Sr-Kalpha, Zr-Kalpha, Ba-Kalpha.
