To evaluate the influence of hydrothermally derived metalliferous particles on sedimentary 231Pa/230Th ratios, we analyzed bulk sediment concentrations of Ti, Mn, Fe, Cu, and Cd at five North Atlantic sites (IODP U1313, MSM58-13-2, MSM58-28-4, SU90-03, and MD95-2037) spanning the Last Glacial Maximum (LGM) to the Holocene. Elemental concentrations were measured using a Thermo Scientific iCAP TQe ICP-MS at the Institute of Earth Sciences, Heidelberg University. For core SU90-03, major element concentrations were determined by ICP-OES using a Varian Vista Pro, whereas trace element concentrations were measured by ICP-MS using a PerkinElmer ELAN 9000 at ALS Chemex Ltd., North Vancouver, Canada. Analytical uncertainties were estimated based on the standard deviation of repeated measurements of a certified reference material, and total procedural blank contributions were less than 1%.
