Novel amorphous and quasicrystalline Ti45-xVxZr38Ni17 alloys for hydrogen storage.

PID

The project is aimed at unveiling structural aspects of the newly synthesised Ti45-xVxZr38Ni17 (x = 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40) alloys and their deuterides. The obtained alloys are amorphous (all x- range) and quasicrystalline (x<20). The research will be focused on creation of deuteride phase for the amorphous and quasicrystalline alloys. Additionally, the temperature evolution of the amorphous and quasicrystalline deuterides will be investigated. The expected results will address the issues of: the D-D and D-M (M-metal) distances in the alloys, reversibility of the obtained deuterides, thermal stability and discovery of new structural phase diagrams for the above mentioned alloys.
