Predecessors of behavioural initiatives by people with profound intellectual disabilities during their interactions with support staff: an exploratory microanalytical analysis

DOI

These files contain the supplemental materials of an observation study on the interactions between people with profound intellectual disabilities and support staff.

Method: Three dyads comprising of a staff member and a person with profound intellectual disabilities were filmed during an interaction. The video was reviewed by the researcher together with the staff member to detect moments of interaction that were valued meaningful by the staff member. Three meaningful moments of interaction and 30 seconds preceding these moments (their onset), were microanalytically coded by use of an observation system. Each behaviour initiated by people with profound intellectual disabilities was examined in order to see what specific behaviour by the support staff began precedingly.
