Long-distance wind dispersal of Culicoides spp. from Sardinia to mainland Europe - Outputs of Hysplit Simulations

DOI

The dataset consists in geospatial files estimating the probability of Culicoides spp. insect being airborne from a source i (island of Sardinia) to any destination j in mainland Europe. The probability of long-distance dispersal was estimated from atmospheric simulations carried out using the HYbrid Single-Particle Lagrangian Integrated Trajectory (HYSPLIT®) model. Hysplit model parametrization (initiation conditions and filters applied to forward trajectories) has been specifically adapted to Culicoides spp. ecology and biological limits. Three independant scenarios of maximal flight durations were tested: 24 hours, 48 hours and 72 hours.
