Cross-Cultural Witchcraft Beliefs

DOI

Global cross-cultural dataset and code for a study on witchcraft beliefs. The records whether or not societies have 1) witchcraft beliefs or 0) low or nonexistent witchcraft beliefs. The data on witchcraft beliefs was coded from ethnographic records in Murdock's Ethnographic Atlas (Murdock, 1967) and listed in the eHRAF World Cultures database. The other variables are taken from Murdock's Ethnographic Atlas as listed on https://d-place.org. The code provides figures and analysis for a study on how socioecological variables such as societal mobility, sedentism and wealth inequality are associated with belief in witchcraft.
