The nature of the Ferroelectric Phase in CdTiO3

DOI

The aim of the present proposal is to establish the structure of the ferroelectric phase of CdTiO3 and to determine the nature of the ferroelectric-paraelectric phase transition. This will be achieved through the use of high resolution powder neutron diffraction, collected at fine temperature intervals on a suitably enriched 114CdTiO3 sample. CdTiO3, like BaTiO3 and PbTiO3, is a displacive type ferroelectric, however whilst the structures and phase transitions in BaTiO3 and PbTiO3 are well understood there is considerable uncertainty regarding the nature of the ferroelectric phase in CdTiO3.
