This dataset compiles environmental, taxonomic, and functional information for 76 stream stations located in southern and western France, monitored between 2019 and 2022. It was developed in the context of a study linking chemical toxicity (based on Gammarus fossarum feeding inhibition bioassays) with aquatic macroinvertebrate community structure and traits.
The dataset includes five CSV tables:
EnvironmentalDriversPerStation.csv — Environmental variables per station: feeding inhibition (FI, toxicity indicator), water temperature, and nutrient concentrations (NH₄⁺, NO₃⁻, NO₂⁻, PO₄³⁻). Values are averages for 2019–2022.
MacroinvertebrateSpeciesPerStation.csv — Abundance of aquatic macroinvertebrate taxa (genus or species level) per station, averaged over 2019–2022.
MacroinvertebrateTaxonomy.csv — Taxonomic information (Family, Order, Class) for each macroinvertebrate taxon.
MacroinvertebrateTraitCategoryPerSpecies.csv — Fuzzy-coded affinities (0–5) of each taxon to 61 trait categories from Tachet et al. (2010), obtained from the freshwaterecology.info database.
MacroinvertebrateTraitCWMPerStation.csv — Community Weighted Means (CWMs) of trait categories per station, computed from species abundances and trait affinities.
All stations correspond to wadeable rivers (<120 cm depth) included in French WFD-compliant monitoring networks. Environmental data were extracted from the national database “Naiades” (http://www.naiades.eaufrance.fr)
