Middle Miocene bottom water Mg/Ca temperatures best estimate, ODP Site 122-761B

This table includes temperatures calculated from Mg/Ca measurements performed on middle Miocene ODP Site 761B benthic foraminifera.All primary data were originally published by Lear et al., 2010. Here, ages are updated according to the accompanying study, and the exponential temperature calibration of Lear et al. 2015 is applied to the 5-point smoothed data from Lear et al. 2010 (as shown below) to calculate temperature. This calibration cannot account for changes in Δ[CO3 2-] and are likely to be offset at least during the middle Miocene Climatic Optimum. See accompanying manuscript for full explanation.
