The Effect of Dilution on Residual Stresses In Multi-pass Welds Using Low Transformation Temperature Filler Alloys

DOI

The aim of this experiment is to characterise the effect of dilution on the residual stresses in multiple-pass welds produced with specially designed filler alloys that exploit transformation plasticity and offset heterogeneously generated thermal contraction strains. Three welds will be measured, each consisting of three individual layers, which have variable compositions specifically calculated to compensate for dilution with the base material. This will allow optimisation of the transformation phenomenon for these types of alloys.
