Climate Data for Puruvesi, Finland, used in the OPERANDUM Del 5.2 (Spyrou et al. 2021)

Project: OPEn-air laboRAtories for Nature baseD solUtions to Manage hydro-meteo risks (OPERANDUM, EC Grant Agreement no.: 776848)

Current climate data Puruvesi_19810101-20200623.txt Daily values of daily mean temperature, total precipitation, global radiation, and water vapour partial pressure in Lake Vehka-Kuonanjärvi area (coordinates LAT: 61.9, LON: 29.4) between 1st January 1981 and 23rd June 2020. These data have been extracted from the 10 km x 10 km gridded data of the Finnish Meteorological Institute (Aalto et al. 2016).

EUROCORDEX (https://euro-cordex.net/060378/index.php.en) climate simulations for years 2006-2099 by the Max-Planck-Institute Earth System Model (Low Resolution, MPI-ESM-LR, hereon MPI-ESM) (Giorgetta et al. 2013) and the Hadley Centre Global Environment Model version 2 (Earth System, HadGEM2-ES, hereon HadGEM2) (Caesar et al. 2013) both forced by the RCP8.5 emission scenario (van Vuuren et al. 2011) and downscaled by regional model RCA4 (Samuelsson et al. 2011). The data here represent Lake Vehka-Kuonanjärvi area (coordinates LAT: 61.9, LON: 29.4). The daily mean temperature, daily precipitation and daily mean humidity (used for calculation of the water vapour partial pressure together with the temperature) of these EUROCORDEX data were bias corrected with the quantile–quantile (Q-Q) mapping method (Veijalainen et al. 2012, Gudmundsson et al. 2012) utilizing the corresponding control simulations representing years 1971-2000 and weather observations of years 1971-2000 (see Spyrou et al. 2021) . For the global radiation, direct model output was used.

The climate data is in standard calendar form with 365 days per year in non-leap years, and 366 days per year in leap years. As the direct output of the HadGEM2 (MPI-ESM) model consisted of 360 (365) days per year, the missing days were interpolated.
