Ba2CuTeO6 is a newly discovered S=1/2 spin ladder system containing Cu2+ ladders. Our wide range of experiments so far indicate that this material is in very close proximity to the quantum critical point of the coupled two-leg spin ladder system which has so far proven very difficult to access experimentally. Ba2CuTeO6 displays ideal isolated ladder behaviour in magnetic susceptibility down to approximately T = 25 K. But below 25 K the behaviour deviates from that of isolated ladders and a cusp is observed at 16 K indicating magnetic ordering. However, NMR and specific heat experiments have not detected any long-range ordering at this temperature, suggesting the order is marginal in nature. We propose to investigate the magnetic correlations above and around the magnetic ordering temperature in Ba2CuTeO6 using polarisation analysis on D7. Combined with reverse Monte Carlo refinement this data will provide an important insight into the interladder coupling and marginal ordering in this material.
