Abstract copyright UK Data Service and data collection copyright owner.

These datasets are provided to allow the replication of results presented in the paper Female Labor Supply, Human Capital and Welfare Reform by Richard Blundell, Monica Costa Dias, Costas Meghir and Jonathan Shaw, published in Econometrica. Two datasets are included: one containing derived variables based on the Labour Force Survey (LFS) between 1993 and 2006 and one containing derived variables based on the British Household Panel Survey (BHPS) between 1991 and 2008. Identifiers have been relabelled so the data cannt be matched to the original BHPS and LFS datasets. No specific documentation is available for this study, but users should use the data along with the broad description of the data and code contained in the Econometrica paper (link above) and online appendix. Documentation for the main LFS and BHPS are available from the survey series links above.

Main Topics:

The variables in the datasets relate primarily to employment and earnings patterns in addition to family composition and other background characteristics. They are a small subset of the variables available through the main LFS and BHPS.

No sampling (total universe)

See LFS and BHPS for details of sampling
