Low energy spin-excitations in the monoclinic form of CoV2O6 brannerite

DOI

CoV2O6 can be synthesized in orthorhombic columbite type, and monoclinic and triclinic brannerite polymorphs. Recent inelastic neutron study of triclinic CoV2O6 brannerite (TN=6K) showed that three exchange modulation dramatically alters the ground state of a ferromagnetic Ising spin chain, leading to a rich spectrum with multiple bands of fractional soliton excitations and thermally induced intra and interband transitions. Considering these interesting results, it is important to investigate low energy spin excitations in the monoclinic form of CoV2O6 (TN=16K) We therefore propose here to carry out low energy inelastic neutron scattering on the monoclinic form of CoV2O6. This is one of a two-part proposal with this proposal requesting time on MARI to study the high energy dynamics and the second on IRIS to measure the low energy component.
