In 1993 a new quarterly survey aside from the extended housing survey in March (Mikrozensus MZ9301) which included questions on the energy consumption of the households, poses questions on housing. The emphasis is on house hunting and change of habitation. The first part of the survey contains questions which serve the better representation of the costs of the apartment such as their connection with the duration of the rent and the influence of housing subsidy, as well as questions on fixed-term tenancy agreements. Mobility and change of residence to other residential areas had before been the topic of the Mikrozensus survey from 1988 (Mikrozensus MZ8802). Change of residence within and over the border of the residential areas an house hunting had been the topic of the Mikrozensus survey in 1971 (Mikrozensus MZ7101). Since then the existing lack of information as well as the increasing demand for apartments over the last years as a consequence of certain factors such as immigration, the need for better apartments, the need for apartments after a divorce, have led to a program on house hunting in September 1993.
