To obtain evidence to assist in advising Winchester City Council on housing policies. In particular, to assist in estimating current housing needs, the extent to which the current stock meets these needs and to assess future changes.

Previous residence: date of move; household composition change; length of residence; whether tied to job; reasons for move; tenure (mortgage repayments/rent). Intention to move (where and when) with reasons, action taken (renting or buying with reasons), considered buying/considered buying if no deposit required, preference to rent from council or private landlord (reasons), preference to rent where repayments of a mortgage equal rent, maximum rent/price/deposit/repayments possible, reasons for wanting to buy, whether have been on Winchester Council Housing List (reasons why not), date put on list, outcome of placement on list, other accommodation sought (outcome), considered buying present accommodation (reasons why not). Second home, type. Background Variables Area, age, sex, occupation employment status and income of chief wage earner. Income of total household, socio-economic group.
