This workshop introduces exposure modelling for natural hazard risk assessment, with a focus on tsunamis. Participants build a simplified exposure model from scratch using real building footprint data, learning the core concepts behind the Global Dynamic Exposure (GDE) model.
The exercise covers:
- Working with building inventory data from OpenBuildingMap
- Assigning building typologies using GEM taxonomy strings
- Distributing district-level asset distributions over individual buildings
- Producing a geospatial exposure model suitable for loss assessment
A solutions notebook is included for reference.
