Ferromagnetic fluctuations in Sr2-xLaxRuO4

DOI

Theoretically, it was suggested that the p wave superconductivity in Sr2RuO4(Tc=1.5 K) is mediated by the ferromagnetic fluctuations. However, there is still no convincing evidence of ferromagnetic spin fluctuations observed by inelastic neutron scattering in Sr2RuO4 up to now. Recently, we observed weak ferromagnetic fluctuations in Sr1.8La0.2RuO4 near (1,0,0) in our preliminary measurements on cold triple axis spectrometer. However, we were not able to determine the dispersion of the ferromagnetic excitations below 10 meV on cold triple axis instrument. Here we propose to measure the high energy ferromagnetic excitations in Sr1.8La0.2RuO4 on MERLIN spectrometer. The success of this experiment may shed some light in understanding the role of ferromagnetic fluctuations in the electron pairing of Sr2RuO4.
