DOI

Aim of this experiment is the identification and characterization of the peculiar steel production, and forging methods, of three Japanese swords made by the three most important historic sword-makers of Japan. The purpose of the experiment is to correlate the observed composition and microstructure to what is known and documented about the metallurgical processes applied, in order to establish a firm correlation between specific procedures and specific forgers.
