The Sicily Channel (SC) site has been monitored for thermohaline properties and water mass exchanges since 1993 by two moorings located within parallel trenches in the 150 km-long transect between Tunisia and Sicily. The north-eastern ISMAR mooring (called C01) is typically equipped with instruments recording pressure, temperature, conductivity, dissolved oxygen and current velocity. This dataset is the result of CTD records at nominal depth of 70 m from 2013 to 2014 and from 2021 to 2025. The nominal depth is however subject to slight variations between servicing of the mooring. The pressure, temperature, conductivity, salinity have been recorded by means of SBE37 probes, with an accuracy of 0.0001°C, 0.0003 S/m, 0.1 dB, for Temperature, Conductivity, Pressure respectively. Salinity is PSS-78 (Practical Salinity). By definition, PSS-78 is valid only in the range of 2 to 42 psu. Sea-Bird uses the PSS-78 algorithm in SBE Data Processing software. The instrument have been regularly calibrated and even compared with CTD cast prior recovery and after mooring deployment .
