The proposing team is interested in exploring the rotational and translational dynamics of molecular hydrogen trapped in water-based cages (clathrate hydrates). These systems have a relevant scientific importance both from a fundamental point of view and from the perspective of new materials suitable for hydrogen storage applications. In a previous experiment on TOSCA the team has studied the ternary clathrate hydrates, where the small cages are filled with one hydrogen molecule and the large ones are filled with one deuterated tetrahydrofuran molecule. This proposal aims to the investigation of the dynamics of H2 in binary clathrate hydrates formed by deuterated water and hydrogen gas. In this compound, both small and large cages are filled with hydrogen molecules, (one molecule in the small cage and four molecules in the large one), that will show a different dynamical behaviour.
