A uSR study of the superconducting ground state in the ternary intermetallics La3T4X4 (where T=Pd,Ni and X=Si,Ge).

DOI

The ternary intermetallics, which crystallise in the ThCr2Si2 structure, have been extensively studied mainly because these materials offer a rich variety of exotic ground states. In particular, there has been intense research in the area of coexistence of the normally exclusive phenomena of magnetism and superconductivity. A large number of these ternary intermetallics crystallise with a rare-earth which allows the hybridisation of the 4f (or 5f) electrons with the conduction electrons. We propose to carry out uSR experiment on La3Pd4Ge4, La3Ni4Si4 and La3Ni4Ge4. Firstly, we aim to determine the magnetic penetration depth and coherence length and therefore understand the mechanisms for superconductivity. Secondly, we also wish to determine whether any weak magnetic correlations or spontaneous fields if they exists around TC.
