A consortium of several UK universities and industries has been set up, based at the National Physical Laboratory, Teddington, to investigate ¿Length-scale bridging in biophysical systems¿. The aim is to look at so-called ¿small¿ molecule systems, meaning peptide chains of typically up to ~20 amino acids in a variety of biologically related environments and using a range of complementary spectroscopies and computational tools. The programme is funded to the tune of £2.4m from NPL for 5 years, with matching funds from the Scottish Universities Physics Alliance. Other funding sources are also being investigated. This proposal is the first of a programme of experiments likely to continue for several rounds, and is intended as a feasibility study to see how NIMROD can impact on this programme.
