Temperature dependent structure ofsome CoCrFeNi-based high entropy/multicomponent alloys

DOI

The proposal is part of the EU FP7 Accelerated Metallurgy project, coordinated by the European Space Agency and in which ILL and ESRF are 2 of about 30 partners within Europe. One of the aims is to investigate multicomponent (MCA) and high-entropy (HEA) alloys, a new exciting field of metallic materials that are composed of at least four elements of roughly equiatomic proportions forming simple structures. Extensive studies on HEA/MCA based on the CoCrFeNi composition have combined different experimental techniques (neutron and X-ray diffraction, scanning and transmission electron microscopy, optical microscopy, atom probe tomography, Mössbauer, SQUID, calorimetry ). The magnetisation curves for some compositions indicate a transition of superparamagnetic/spin glass type for some alloys. This transition can be at temperatures above ambient and/or with several blocking temperatures and high magnetisation values. DTA curves of the same compositions show that several phase transitions occur during annealing. The aim of this proposal is to fully characterise the phase transformations of CCFN-based alloys of different compositions at different temperatures in the range 20-1100°C.
