A Total Scattering Study of Local Structure in BIMEVOXes

DOI

The BIMEVOXes are an important family of fast oxide ion conducting solids that exhibit very high conductivities at low and intermediate temperatures. A study of local ordering in selected BIMEVOX compositions through total scattering analysis is proposed. The study will be used to validate models of the defect structure previously proposed by us to explain the phase stability and solid solution limits in these compounds. The tetragonal and orthorhombic BIMEVOXes are crystallographically more complex than previous systems examined by total scattering analysis on the Polaris diffractometer and the study represents a significant challenge for the new Polaris configuration.
