Sediment depth is given in mbsf. The XRD analyses were carried out on bulk samples, without any treatment or separation, in the Department of Chemistry of the University of Waterloo. A Cu(Kappa alphy) source was used in a Siemens D500 diffractometer at a scan rate of 0.015°/s, from 8° to 32° (2Theta). "Opal-CT" indicates undifferentiated cristobalite and tridymite. "Zeolites" are undifferentiated zeolite phases, though the most common are clinoptilolite and phillipsite, and analcime and laumontite are not uncommon. The height and width of the peaks frequently prevent the resolution of specific phases. For sections 127-797B-31X-1 through -33X-3, the quartz is detrital in origin, and is flagged with an asterisk (*). References: Finney et al. (1975), Chen et al. (1978), Hawkins et al.
