De novo transcriptome assembly and analysis of the fish-killling raphidophyte Heterosigma akashiwo using the Illumina sequencing

The raphidophyte alga, Heterosigma akashiwo is a major concern for aquaculture farms in coastal environments. This fish-killing flagellate can produce long lasting blooms that can appear rapidly and have caused massive fish mortalities in USA, Japan, New Zealand and Canada. The impact of climate change appears to have had a major influence on blooms of H. akashiwo as they appear very quickly with little warning.
