This is the data collected during the PRIMary care App-supported Brain health promotion (PRIMA-Brain) study. This was a proof-of-concept study aimed at examining the feasibility of implementing a personalized dementia risk reduction program in primary care. Working with 11 general practices in the Netherlands, data on about 200 individuals between 40 and 60 years old was collected, who participated in the three-month-long study intervention. Participants completed a screening and baseline survey, went to their GP to discuss their brain-health and risk factor profile and set sustainable lifestyle goals. Half of the participants also got provided with a brain-health promotion smartphone app. Three months later, they had to complete a follow-up survey. Surveys asked about demographics, knowledge on dementia risk reduction, health behaviors (physical activity, diet, smoking, alcohol consumption and cognitive activity) and other health-related information (weight, height, depression, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, chronic kidney disease, hypertension, dyslipidemia). Further also certain social-cognitive determinants of health behavior were surveyed as well as experiences and satisfaction with the intervention. Blood pressure was measured at the baseline consultation at the general practice and other measurements were collected if they were available in the patient record.
Further, about 20 participants also completed experience-sampling method (ESM) surveys to examine potential relationships between momentary environment, mood, self-esteem, social-cognitive behavior determinants and the engagement in health behaviors.
