Spin structures of new mixed valence Li1±хMn2±хTeO6±δ compounds

DOI

It is proposed to carry out a neutron powder diffraction study of the magnetic ordering of the samples from LiMn2TeO6 family having different crystallographic structures. New complex oxide LiMn2TeO6 (LiMn2+Mn3+TeO6) is a rare example of manganese compounds with mixed oxidation state lower than 3 (average oxidation state of Mn is 2.5). Possessing such valence of manganese this compound is very different from previously reported CMR materials with Mn oxidation between 3 and 4. The crystal structure of this family is very labile and it is expected that iso-and heterovalent modification might effectively modify the electric and magnetic properties of these compounds. The main objective of this proposal is to determine the influence of Li ions and the different oxidation state of the Mn metal in the magnetic structure. For this study the neutron powder diffractometer D20 operating in high-resolution configuration will be the most appropriate instrument. For the proposed experiment, we have chosen five different compositions with three different symmetries: triclinic stoichiometric LiMn2TeO6, monoclinic Li1.10Mn1.90TeO6 and LiMn2TeO6+δ and orthorhombic Li0.9Mn2.1TeO6 and LiMn2TeO6-δ.
