Photographs used to develop a standardized and fully quantitative pipeline for color pattern analysis in coral reef fishes

DOI

This dataset comprises 113 live photographs of hamlets (Hypoplectrus spp.). The photographs are in raw format .CR2 from a Canon camera. This dataset spans 13 hamlet species from 4 locations in the wider Caribbean: Panama, Belize, Puerto Rico and the Florida Keys (USA). Photographs were taken in situ underwater. This dataset was used in a newly developed quantitative image analysis pipeline to assess hamlets color pattern variations. Further combined with genetics, the authors detailed the genetic basis of color pattern variation in hamlets.

The tan hamlet has not been described yet. The species name is therefore only given as Hypoplectrus.
