Bulk 230Th-excess and U isotopes concentrations in GIK23065-3 core in the Nordic Seas

DOI

Bulk Thorium and Uranium concentrations were measured in 35 sediment samples from the Nordic Seas core GIK23065-3. Samples were fully digested following the method of Geibert et al. (2019) to calculate excess 230Th (230Thxs) in the sediments. After sample full digestion, radionuclide concentrations were determined using an ICP-MS (Thermo Scientific Element2 with Jet interface). 230Thxs in marine sediments provides information on past water column conditions, including salinity-related changes, as demonstrated by Geibert et al. (2021). In this dataset, Thorium and Uranium concentrations are used to derive 230Thxs and enable comparison with reactive 10Be/9Be ratios, a proxy for tracing North Atlantic inflow into the Nordic Seas (Ollive et al., doi:10.1594/PANGAEA.993158). The record covers glacial intervals from Marine Isotope Stages (MIS) 2–4 to MIS 6.
