Mesopotamian seals and duckweights of the period 2000 - 1600 BC are often made of ironstone which is usually refered to as 'heamatite" In a recent study we have shown that these objects can contain different types iron oxides. We propose to enlarge our indepth knowledge of the mineral composition of Mesopotamian heamatite objects by studying objects from the Allard Pierson Museum, Amsterdam and the RMO, Leiden. In the present study we will obtain information on provenance material from Iraq and Syria.
