Long-term (2005-2019) monitoring data of epiphytic lichens of the LTER station Zöbelboden, Austria. The data contains lichen species frequencies per host tree; https://deims.org/8eda49e9-1f4e-4f3e-b58e-e0bb25dc32a6
Host trees were selected by a stratified sampling approach so that the same number of trees of each species was recorded in the different areas of the project area (plateau, upper and lower part of the slope, west, north and east slope). Epiphytic lichens were first recorded in 1993 and then in 1999 but using a different method than since 2005 (see https://deims.org/dataset/63b2325e-4eca-11e4-a597-005056ab003f for spatially aggregated data before 2005). Here we compile all data since 2005. The recording methods follows the "VDI 3957, Blatt 13 (2005)" recommendations. A mesh of 5 10x10cm raster cells was fixed at the north, east, south, and west-side of the tree between 1 and 2 m height. The occurrence of each lichen species was recorded in each of the 10x10 cm raster cells. From these records the frequency was calculated representing percent occurrence of each species.Host tree species taxa can be found in https://deims.org/dataset/cfb5581f-be40-484f-9b94-46d42a801d5b.
