The survey obtained information on the employment status, occupation and domestic circmstances of qualified nurses, midwives and health visitors no longer employed in the profession. It also enquired into the nature of their professional qualifications and their attitudes toward the profession. The information will assist in forming and monitoring policies on manpower planning for the field in the 1990s.

Simple random sample
People with a relevant professional qualification were identified from the 10% coded sample on the 1991 Census. (The 1991 Census is not available outside OPCS in raw form).
