Multibeam bathymetry raw data (Kongsberg EM710 entire dataset) of RV METEOR during cruise M212

DOI

Raw multibeam bathymetry data were collected aboard RV METEOR during cruise M212 using a Kongsberg EM 710 multibeam echosounder. The expedition took place during 2025-07-30 – 2025-09-02 from Ponta Delgada (Portugal) to St. John's (Canada) in the North West Atlantic. The scientific program of M212 was a contribution to the field experiments of the collaborative Horizon Europe project EPOC 'Explaining and Predicting the Ocean Conveyor' and of the DFG Collaborative Research Centre (CRC/TRR) 181 'Energy Transfers in Atmosphere and Ocean'. EPOC aims to identify key processes that determine the meridional connectivity of ocean transports, in particular the mechanisms responsible for the coherence of the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation across key latitudes in the Atlantic and the influence of North Atlantic Current variability on the Deep Western Boundary Current. The contribution to CRC 181 addresses the relationship between mesoscale structures and the internal wave field with a focus on adaptive sampling by autonomous underwater vehicles. Data were solely recorded in international waters. Sound velocity profiles (SVP) were applied on the data for calibration. Please see environmental data and the cruise report for details. The data are unprocessed and can therefore contain incorrect depth measurements (artifacts) if not further processed. Note that refraction errors may occur when no proper SVP is applied. Data acquisition was done by University of Bremen, provision of the data is supported by the DAM Project Underway Research Data and published according to the FAIR principles.

These data should not be used for navigational purposes.
