Video recordings of the benthos recorded along a transect at Vodudahue in the Comau Fjord (Patagonia, Chile)

DOI

A custom-built ROV (Octiluz) based on Ocean Module V8Sii ROV (Remotely Operated Vehicle) technology was launched from a small boat and flown along a 131 m vertical transect to the bottom of the fjord at 148 m depth. The device was equipped with three cameras with different perspectives: Two HD camera (Kongsberg oe14-502, 720p50) pointed forward recording stereograpic videos and a full HD network camera (OceanTools C3-30 1080p25) took isometric recordings foreward-down. Environmental data were recorded using a CTD (RBR Maestro), which included sensors for chlorophyll a, turbidity, oxygen, pH and PAR in addition to standard conductivity, temperature and pressure instruments (see doi:10.1594/PANGAEA.982998). The global orientation with respect to magnetic north was determined using an internal IMU device. To determine the true imaging scale on the high-resolution film material, a series of reference lasers indicating 14 cm horizontally and 7 cm vertically were used, as well as an altimeter (Tritech) providing acoustically measured distances to the wall (see linked file in dive metadata column).
