The Mikrozensus special survey from December 1967 (Mikrozensus MZ6704) revealed that about 1.5 million Austrians suffer from a physical handicap. In December 1986 it is again tried to evaluate how many Austrians suffer from impairment of seeing, hearing or movement as well as who suffers from a chronic disease. Updated numbers make medical and social improvement possible. Several measures have been taken in and since the year 1981 which the UN had given the motto full involvement and equal treatment of handicapped persons. In public as well as in private life a physical handicap can lead to discrimination. Many questions in this program serve the purpose of finding out whether helps, adaptations and/or facilitations exist or are needed. Moreover, it should be evaluated whether the physical handicap affects or affected the education and career of the interviewees.
