Recrystallisation of LiCl-doped ice under pressure

DOI

In recent high pressure experiments (S. Klotz et al., Nature Materials, DOI 10.1038/ NMAT2422, 23.4.2009) we discovered a salt hydrate based on a high-pressure ice form, i.e. LiCl-6D2O ice VII. This compound is formed by recrystallisation of a glassy LiCl solution at 4 GPa/270 K. We suspect that other "salty" high-pressure ices exist in nature, in particular between 0 and 3 GPa. The proposed experiments will study the recrystallisation behaviour of glassy LiCl-6D2O in the pressure range 0-8 GPa and thereby address this question.
