Long-term forest inventory and aboveground tree biomass data from LTER Zöbelboden Austria (2003-2019). The dataset contains forest inventory parameter (tree species, tree vitality status, diameter at breast height, tree height) as well as stem, branch, foliage/needle and total aboveground biomass of the trees within the three intensive plots of LTER Zöbelboden. The forest inventories were conducted in 2003, 2007, 2012 and 2014 (IP1), 2003, 2007, 2014 and 2019 (IP2) and 2012, 2014 and 2019.
Forest inventories were conducted in 2003, 2007, 2012, 2014 and 2019 within the intensive monitoring plots of the LTER Zöbelboden. Prior to the first inventory, each tree was tagged and subsequently its spatial position was recorded. Tree species, tree vitality status, diameter at breast height (dbh = 1.37 m) (tree caliper) and tree height (Vertex III/G, Haglöf, ) was surveyed. Tree biomass was calculated by species- and tree compartment-specific volume and biomass functions (Zianis et al. 2005; Muukkonen and Mäkipää 2006; Alberti et al. 2005) applied to the tree metrics dbh and tree height. Estimated stem wood volume at field-moist status was converted to biomass at dry weight by multiplying stem volume with species-specific shrinking ratios and species-specific average wood densities (Ö NORM B 3012 2003).
