This dataset provides the sedimentological and palaeoecological data for the Post-Industrial sediment sequence retrieved from Loe Pool (UK) in 2021. Loss-on-ignition as well as counts of chironomids and diatoms are presented against both depth (cm) and age (year CE). The data provides information on the changes in the lake ecosystem itself and has been used to identify the effects of external drivers on biodiversity parameters (alpha and beta diversity). Cores were retrieved from the lake using a 60 mm diameter UWITEC gravity corer deployed from a boat during field work in September 2021. Two cores (LPGC21-3, 0-88 cm; LPGC21-6, 64-140.5) were combined into a composite core sequence (LPGC21), which was sampled between 0-165 cm in 1-cm-thick subsamples. Where appropriate, datasets are processed through amalgamation of consecutive samples to e.g. ensure high count sums or concentrations. Cricotopus (Isocladius) intersectus- and Cricotopus (Intersectus) laricomalis-types were combined into a single group (C. intersectus-type sensu lato (s.l)) as they are similar in appearance and ecological role (Brooks et al., 2007).
