This video, taken on January 27, 2024, shows a large occurrence of Creseis acicularis in the water column in the coastal region of Maragogi, Brazil, known as Croa de São Bento (9°4'10.93"S 35°13'38.16"W). Raft driver Tarcisio Galvão Calaça Cavalcanti obtained this video while working in the area. He noticed the swarming and recorded it, then sent it to us. An outbreak of this species was initially recorded on January 24, 2024, on Serrambi Beach (8°34'03.4S 35°01'42.5W) on the southern coast of Pernambuco. Researchers and beachgoers observed thousands of these organisms on the shoreline and in the water column. Recording this data is extremely important because there are no records of outbreaks of this organism, especially in coastal areas of the tropical South Atlantic.
This video shows the record of a outbreak of C. acicula reported in the tropical waters of the South Atlantic, observed in Croas de São Bento, Maragogi, Alagoas, Brazil. Many thanks to the raft driver, Mr. Tarcisio Galvão Calaça Cavalcanti, for making and sending the video.
