Processed CT image-based volume data of sediment core GeoB16313-2 from a coral mound in the Campeche Mound Province, Gulf of Mexico, MARIA S. MERIAN cruise MSM20/4

DOI

The sediment gravity core GeoB16313-2 was taken from a coral mound (Ixchel Mound) in the Campeche Mound Province, Gulf of Mexcio. Through scanning the core with CT (computer tomograph) following the methodology of Titschack et al. (2015; 2016), we analyse the coral content at high resolution (Volume %). This contributes to a multi-step analysis of the core with the aim to calculate the total carbon accumulation within the coral mound. Due to the large size of the data set, the record is presented at a 5cm running-average interval. The data points show the share (%) of cold-water corals within the sediment core, as well as the remaining matrix sediment fraction, which allows the quantification of coral carbonate accumulation further down the line.
