The corpus is part of a Digital Humanities project centered on the historical semantics of the concept of nature in Spain and Hispano-America in the 18th and early 19th centuries (https://zenodo.org/records/10706000), funded by VolkswagenStiftung.
It comprises a heterogeneous collection of texts varying in types, topics, and data quantity per time period.
Divided into two subcorpora, one gathers text from approximately 100 Spanish periodical titles, including journals, newspapers, yearbooks, ephemerides, and more. The other subcorpus contains text from around 300 documents of various types, such as treatises, essays, memorias, travelogues, and more. Both subcorpora are available as raw text and as pre-processed text.
In addition to the thematically diverse periodicals, the collection focuses on the areas of natural history, natural sciences, politics, economics, literature and cultural criticism.
The data corpus is intended to enable the application and further development of DH approaches and to promote their use for research into the 18th century in Spain. Please consult the read me for further information on the corpus and the related files.
