We propose specular NR measurements on imidazolium substituted PEDOT-Im films exposed to a novel room temperature ionic liquid, the deep eutectic solvent (DES) Ethaline. The key fundamental interest is to understand and quantify the ion transfer dynamics (identity, quantity and rate) of PEDOT-Im films associated with their electrochemical oxidation and reduction in the DES medium. It is possible to fabricate PEDOT-Im with several anions, e.g. BF4-, TFSI-, PF6-, whose choice influences film physical and electrochemical properties. Understanding this influence is central to design and implementation processes for application of these materials in several emerging technologies. We wish to probe the influence of polymer anion on the mechanism and rate of subsequent electrochemically induced anion and cation exchange processes using NR in combination with electrochemical methodologies.
