Search for isovector octupole states in 146Nd

DOI

We propose to study excited states in the nucleus 146Nd by a 145Nd(n,gamma gamma) reaction using the newly installed FIPPS (Phase I) HPGe spectrometer at the end of the H22 guide. Aim is to identify candidates for isovector octupole states by measuring the branching ratios in their decay and the multipole mixing ratios of the gamma-rays from gamma-gamma coincidences and angular correlations. Fingerprint is a strong M1 component in the decay to the first 3- octupole state. We request 7 days of beam time.
